Renting a golf cart in Playa Flamingo: how it works

Atlas golf cart guide

Golf carts are how most people get around Playa Flamingo, Potrero and Brasilito. They’re open air, easy to park and quick between the beach, the marina and dinner. If you’ve never rented one here, this is how it usually works, start to finish.

We’re Colibri Hospitality, a local team based in Flamingo. We don’t rent carts ourselves. We work with a few local cart companies we trust, and each one does things a little differently, so think of this as the general picture.

Short answer

You book ahead, and the cart is usually delivered to wherever you’re staying on your first day and collected at the end of your stay. Most rentals have a minimum of a few days, most carts have four or six seats, and you charge them on a normal outlet overnight.

Do you need a golf cart in Playa Flamingo?

Need is a strong word, but most guests are glad they have one. Flamingo is hilly, the sun is strong, and the beach, marina and restaurants are spread out more than they look on a map. Walking is fine for short hops. For a week of beach days and dinners, a cart saves a lot of sweat.

It also means nobody has to be the designated driver of a big rental car every night. Potrero and Brasilito are a few minutes away, so a cart covers the whole stretch.

How booking and delivery work

You book ahead with your dates and the address where you’re staying. Most companies here deliver the cart to your rental on day one and pick it up when you leave, so there’s usually no office to visit and no line at a counter.

If you book through us, we match you with the right partner, confirm the delivery timing and pass along anything they need.

Is there a minimum rental?

Usually, yes. Most rentals around Flamingo, Potrero and Brasilito have a minimum of a few days. Farther along the coast the minimums tend to be longer. We’ll tell you what applies to your dates.

4 seats or 6?

  • 4 seats suits couples and most families with one or two kids.
  • 6 seats is worth it for bigger groups, or if you want room for a cooler, boards and beach chairs.
  • Features vary by cart. Some have extras like a cooler, locking storage or a speaker, so tell us what matters to you.

Who can drive?

Most companies need drivers to be at least 18, and some ask younger drivers to add extra coverage. Bring your driver’s license, and we’ll confirm the rules for your cart when you book.

Most rental carts here are street legal and registered for local roads, so normal road rules apply: seatbelts on, no drinking and driving, and no driving on the beach.

How charging works

Range depends a lot on the cart. Newer electric carts can manage around 60 to 75 km on a full charge, while others get closer to 30 or 40. Either is usually plenty for a day around Flamingo, Potrero and Brasilito, as long as you plug in every night on a normal outlet at your rental.

Local detail

Ask your host where the closest outdoor outlet is before the cart arrives. Some condos have one by the parking spots, and knowing that up front saves a hunt on your first night. If you’re staying in one of our homes, we’ll tell you before you land.

What’s usually included

  • Delivery and pickup at your rental
  • Basic liability coverage, with optional damage coverage on top
  • A charging cable
  • Headlights and seatbelts on most carts

Prices depend on the cart size, the season and how long you rent, so send us your dates and we’ll come back with current options. Book a few weeks ahead in high season, December to April, and over holidays. Planning tours too? Roam With Colibri covers boat days, diving and more.
